City Offices Closed for Memorial Day on May 29
City Hall, most City departments and divisions, and the Ames Public Library will be closed Monday, May 29, in recognition of Memorial Day. Normal operating hours will resume Tuesday, May 30.
CyRide will not run on Memorial Day and will return to normal scheduling on Tuesday, May 30. For more schedule information, go to www.cyride.com.
The Resource Recovery Plant, 110 Center Ave., will be closed Monday, May 29.
The Community Center Gym and Municipal Pool will be closed on Monday, May 29. Furman Aquatic Center will be open on Monday, May 29. For specific Parks and Recreation facilities schedules, go to www.cityofames.org/parkrec.
The Ames Patriotic Council will sponsor a Memorial Day parade beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 29. The parade will start at City Hall, 515 Clark Ave. Anyone, especially any veteran, wishing to walk or ride in the parade is welcome. Parade participants should begin gathering at 10 a.m. on Fifth Street between Clark Avenue and Pearle Avenue or in the parking lot on the east side of City Hall.
The parade will proceed north along Clark and then east along Ninth Street to the Ames Municipal Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at the cemetery.
Aaron Rosheim, of Ames, will be the featured speaker. Mayor Ann Campbell will give the City’s welcome. Afterwards, American Legion Post No. 37 will provide lunch at the post, 225 Main St. In case of rain, the parade will be cancelled, and the program will move indoors to the City Hall Auditorium at 11 a.m.
