Requirements of eligibility for the Ames Animal Shelter microchip clinic are as follows:
- Animals must be friendly and able to be handled by staff/volunteers without the requirement of safety restraint equipment, including muzzles. Animals unable to be safely handled will be turned away.
- Cats must be brought in a secure plastic or fabric carrier designed for the transportation of pets. Cats in inappropriate "carriers" or on leashes will be turned away.
- Dogs must be kept on a leash extending no more than 6 feet. Flexi/Retractable leashes are not allowed.
- Applicants will be required to sign up for an appointment slot. This sign up link is provided by email following residency verification. Applicants who do not attend their scheduled appointment time may be ineligible for future clinics.
- Saturday microchipping events will be held as a drive-up. Owners will be required to remain in their vehicle, and staff/volunteers will transport animals from the vehicle to the building, then back to the owner's car. For Wednesday clinics, owners will need to call the shelter to let them know when they've arrived as the clinics take place outside the shelter's open hours.
