Campustown Urban Revitalization Criteria Amendment

The Ames City Council has directed staff to propose changes to the tax abatement criteria for incentivizing “Non-Formula Retail” uses in redevelopment projects. The working definition for a “Non-Formula Retail” business would be any establishment that does not have 10 or more locations with a similar appearance and array of services to that which is proposed in Campustown. Examples of Formula Retail businesses would include establishments such as Great Clips, McDonalds, Subway, and Wells Fargo.

The proposed changes would be additional requirements to the current tax abatement criteria for Campustown. Staff wants to note that that projects that have already been determined to be consistent with the current tax abatement criteria will be unaffected by any future amendment.
