Pre-Conversion and Pre-Sale Inspections

If you are planning to convert a single family home into a rental property or are considering the purchase of a rental property, please complete the Rental Registration Form or contact the Inspection Division by phone at 515-239-5153 or by e-mail at Inspections@cityofames.org to request a pre-conversion or pre-sale inspection before offering the home for rent. You may request a copy of prior inspection reports if the property has been or is currently being offered for rent. If you decide NOT to register the property as a rental then a fee of $54.47 will be assessed, otherwise there is no charge for this inspection.

Annual Rental Registration Renewal Fees - Currently Registered Dwellings

All owners are billed for one year's registration fee annually in May. The billing period is for the previous twelve months. See the fee schedule at Ames Municipal Code Appendix L(PDF, 93KB), page 4 for rental fees.
