Three finalists have been selected to interview for the position of Ames Deputy Fire Chief. A public presentation has been scheduled for each candidate so the public has a chance to meet each finalist.
The first public presentation will be for candidate Karen Tapper at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, at the Homewood Clubhouse, 401 E. 20th St. Tapper is currently Shift Commander with the Ames Fire Department. She has been with the Ames Fire Department since 1999, was promoted to Lieutenant in 2006, and then to Shift Commander in 2016. Tapper has a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University and a master’s degree from Waldorf University. She has the following certifications: Fire Department Vehicle Diver Operator Pumper, Fire Officer II, Fire Officer I, Fire Service Instructor I, Fire Fighter II, Fire Fighter I, Emergency Medical Responder, Fire Instructor II, and Fire Department Safety Officers Association Incident Safety Officer NFPA Standard 1521.
The public is invited to attend the public presentations and share feedback on the candidates.
