After a national recruitment, three finalists have been identified for the position of Assistant City Manager with the City of Ames. A public presentation has been scheduled for each candidate so the public has a chance to meet the finalists. Assistant City Manager Bob Kindred retires this spring after more than 38 years of service.
More than 70 applications were received for the position. The Assistant City Manager assists in coordinating City operations, supporting City boards and commissions, and achieving goals established by the City Council.
A public presentation by Debra Schildroth is planned for 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, in the Auditorium of the Ames Public Library. Schildroth serves as the Director of External Operations and County Services for Story County, Iowa, a position she has held since 2015. From 1991 to 2015, Schildroth worked for Story County Community Services, first as a Case Manager (1991 to 1992), then as Assistant Director (1992 to 2000), and as Director (2000 to 2015). From 2014 to 2015, she served concurrently as Director of Story County Community Services and as the Chief Executive Officer of Central Iowa Community Services. Schildroth was also a Direct Care Worker for the Story County Community Life Program from 1990 to 1991. Schildroth has a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa and a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Iowa State University.
