After a national recruitment, three finalists have been identified for the position of Assistant City Manager with the City of Ames. A public presentation has been scheduled for each candidate so the public has a chance to meet the finalists. Assistant City Manager Bob Kindred retires this spring after more than 38 years of service.
More than 70 applications were received for the position. The Assistant City Manager assists in coordinating City operations, supporting City boards and commissions, and achieving goals established by the City Council.
A public presentation by Corey Goodenow is planned for 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, in the Auditorium of the Ames Public Library. Goodenow serves as the Assistant City Administrator/Finance Director for the City of Pella, Iowa, a position he has held since 2016. He served as the City’s Finance Director from 2014 to 2016 before taking the concurrent role as Assistant City Administrator. From 2011 to 2014, Goodenow was the City Manager for the City of Chariton. In 2013, Goodenow concurrently served as the interim City Administrator for the City of Centerville. He also worked as an Executive Officer 2 for the Iowa Office of Energy Independence, from 2009 to 2011, and as an Investment Accountant for Principal Financial Group from 2005 to 2009. Goodenow holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from Drake University and a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Iowa State University.
