After a national recruitment, two finalists have been identified for the position of Transit Director with the City of Ames (CyRide) public transit system. A public presentation has been scheduled for each candidate so the public has a chance to meet the finalists. Former transit director Sheri Kyras retired this spring after more than 10 years of service.
The Ames public transit system, CyRide, is funded by the City of Ames, Iowa State University administration and ISU Student Government. It is run by a board of directors representing the funding agencies and riders. Under the direction of the Transit Board, the Transit Director plans, directs, coordinates, and assures the efficiency of all fiscal, operational, maintenance, and personnel activities for CyRide. CyRide operates 13 fixed routes, a Dial-A-Ride service for persons with a disability, and a late night service called Moonlight Express.
A public presentation by Roy Rickert is planned for 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, in the Auditorium of the Ames Public Library. Rickert serves as the Executive Director for Bis-Man Transit/CND Inc., in Bismark, N.D., a position he has held since 2015. From 2011 to 2015, Rickert served as the Transit Operations Director for Connect Transit (Bloomington-Normal Public Transit) based in Bloomington-Normal, Ill. From 2006 to 2011, Rickert was Operations Assistant (Supervisor), and worked for Connect Transit as a motor coach operator from 2002 to 2006. Rickert has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in business administration from Troy State University.
