The Ames Patriotic Council’s Veterans Day program will take place in person this year at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at City Auditorium, 520 Sixth St. The program will also be streamed live on the Patriotic Council’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/amespatrioticcouncil and on the website at http://amespatrioticcouncil.org. The video will also be available for viewing at later times and days at these addresses.
U.S. Army Major Daniel Oh of Ames will be the featured speaker. Major Oh is a graduate of West Point and earned an MBA degree at the University of Chicago. He has been the CEO of Renewable Energy Group (REG), an international biodiesel and bioproducts company, and is currently the president and CEO of AgCertain, a company engaged in value-added agriculture. He also owns and operates OEI Inc., a 25-year-old company focused on investing in historic property restoration and development, delivering business and consulting services, and building companies.
Ames Patriotic Council President Tim Gartin will introduce the Veterans Day program. The colors will be presented by the ISU Air Force ROTC Color Guard. Welcomes will be offered from the City by Ames Mayor Pro Tem Amber Corrieri and from American Legion Post No. 37 by past National Commander Dave Rehbein. The program will include musical performances by singer Jim DeHoet and the Heart of Iowa Senior Band, led by Don Dobell, and a special appearance by the Ames High School Concert Chorale.
The program will include honors to all veterans from all services and all periods. After the ceremony, the public is invited to a lunch served from noon to 1 p.m. by the American Legion at Post No. 37, 225 Main St.
