From here you may start new services within the City of Ames, stop existing services, or accomplish both (if you're moving from one Ames location to another). This application also allows you to add or remove a spouse to your existing services, submit documentation for a legal name change, and set up a yard water meter at a house.
This will detail all our payment options, including the ability to make card payments online or over the phone, PO box for mailed payments, drop box locations, in person payment options, and automatic payments.
You may set up Auto Pay, which will automatically withdraw the amount you owe on your utility bill on the due date each month from a checking or savings account. Clicking here or the icon above will take you to the appropriate application. This application would also be utilized for updating an existing Auto Pay to a new bank account.
From here you will find options available to businesses and landlords, including starting (business/commercial) services, stopping services, transferring to a new location, establishing a new leave-on agreement (landlords), removing an existing leave-on agreement, and requesting new meters.
Should you want to sign up for paperless billing (email billing), you may do so here. You can also update mailing addresses, or change your bill reception preferences.
This link includes access to a live outage map, information on how to report an outage, the ability to view planned outages, and the option to receive automated outage information to your mobile phone.
Our bill view portal (also known as MyAccount) allows you to view and pay utility bills. It is a third party, and requires separate registration, login, and linkage to your Utility account.
You may view current utility rates and classes. This includes information for electric, water, sewer, and storm water rates.
The city has many "smart energy" initiatives, including home energy audits, efficiency improvements, rebates, a community solar farm project (SunSmart), and is committed to sustainability.
