A planned or prescribed burn is any fire ignited under certain predetermined conditions to meet specific objectives related to hazardous fuels or habitat improvement. A prescribed burn plan is a document that includes a description of the site to be burned, the objectives of the burn, and a description of how and by whom the burn is going to be accomplished and evaluated. Because of the complexity of this process, prescribed burn contractors are often enlisted to develop the prescribed burn plan and conduct the prescribed burn.
