The community is invited to enjoy a night of music at City Council Night at the Bandshell on Thursday, June 8, at Bandshell Park, 125 E. Fifth St. This traditional summer event includes the opportunity to meet Ames City Councilmembers as they hand out free ice cream and Ames water beginning at 7 p.m.
Additionally, the City Assessor’s Office will have a table set up with information about the new homestead tax exemption available to Ames homeowners ages 65 and older. City Assessor Shari Plagge will be available to answer questions.
The Ames Municipal Band concert, conducted by Michael Golemo, will begin at 8 p.m. The vocal soloist will be Jennifer Rodgers. The concert is free, and attendees are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs to the park. In the event of severe weather, Council Night at the Bandshell will be rescheduled.
Ames Municipal Band will present free and family-friendly concerts at 8 p.m. every Thursday in June and July at Bandshell Park. Each week the band will perform a different concert featuring popular music, light classical, hymns, marches and music from Broadway and films. Each concert will have a vocal soloist and, at times, instrumental soloists and guest conductors.
