The Ames Animal Shelter will hold a microchip clinic for Ames dog and cat owners from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, at the Ames Water Plant, 1800 E. 13th St. Microchipping a pet is a permanent form of identification that injects a small microchip under the animal’s skin. Unlike a collar or tags, microchips cannot be lost or removed.

The microchip clinic is drive-up, with owners remaining in their vehicle. Pets will be transported to the microchip implant stations and back to the vehicle. The cost to microchip a cat or dog is $10, which includes lifetime registration. Registration is limited to Ames residents until Saturday, May 6. The microchip clinic is run by the Ames Animal Shelter team with support from shelter volunteers and vet students from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
