The City of Ames Planning and Housing, Public Works, and Fire Departments are hosting a public open house and meeting for residents to learn more about potential City projects that are planned or being considered in the College Creek/Old Ames Middle School neighborhood (generally defined as south of Lincoln Way, from Hyland Avenue to Beedle Drive).
The event will begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, with an open house at the Ames Middle School, 3915 Mortenson Road. A short, 10-minute overview of the three projects will be held at 6 p.m.
1. Planning & Housing Department: Update on the development of 321 State Avenue. This includes developing multi-family units on the site and using Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to install a shared use path from Franklin Park to Wilmoth Avenue.
2. Public Works Department: Update on the installation of a shared use path from Beedle Drive to the Ames Intermodal Facility.
3. Fire Department: Exploring the idea of relocating Fire Station #2 somewhere along State Avenue, between Arbor Street and Mortensen Road.
Representatives from each of the departments will be available in individual stations to share information about their project, answer questions, and listen to feedback. For more information, visit
