CyRide, the Ames community public transit system, will hold a public meeting from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the second floor conference room at CyRide, 601 N. University Blvd. The purpose of the meeting is to gain input on major service changes proposed to go into effect Saturday, May 9, with the start of summer service.
Proposed changes are based on an analysis of past service and the desire to improve system schedule timing. CyRide is proposing changes to the #3 Blue and #14 Peach in order to maintain a consistent and reliable schedule. A summary of both proposed changes are listed below:
#3 Blue: Modify route alignment to follow current detour and not circle service back to the Lower Friley area as service was originally designed via CyRide 2.0. Due to increased pedestrian traffic during the school year, the route is not able to meet the schedule under the previous CyRide 2.0 route alignment. (This route has been on a detour over the past year due to construction at the Gerdin Building on Wallace Road.)
#14 Peach: Reduce service frequency from 30-minute service to 40-minute service. Due to increased traffic on Stange Road and Osborn Drive, the route is not able to meet the 30-minute schedule year-round.
The purpose of the meeting is to share a summary of the changes for these two routes and provide an opportunity for the public to preview the schedules/route maps and provide comments. Based on these comments, CyRide will develop final schedules for implementation next year.
Those unable to attend the meeting may provide comments to
cyride@cyride.com or by contacting Transit Planner Shari Atwood at 515.292.1100. Comments received by the end of the day Tuesday, March 3, will be distributed to the CyRide Transit Board at its meeting on Wednesday, March 4. All comments will be taken into consideration before staff completes the final schedule for summer and school year services.
