Ames Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Homewood Golf Course Clubhouse. The event, postponed from an earlier date, will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the golf course at 20th Street and Duff Avenue. The new clubhouse will include a community room that can be utilized year-round (including rentals), a fireplace, an outdoor patio, and energy efficient appliances. It is scheduled to be completed in spring of 2021.
Homewood Golf Course, a public nine-hole course, will remain open for golfers during construction. Tee times are required. To reserve a tee time, visit www.amesparkrec.org or call 515.239.5363. Indoor restrooms are not available while the clubhouse is under construction, but portable restrooms will be located near the first tee.
Due to concerns about COVID-19 transmission, those who attend the groundbreaking in person are expected to wear a mask and maintain a distance of at least six feet from others at the event. There will be no seating or refreshments. Additionally, the ceremony will be filmed and possibly be offered virtually. (Due to recent hot temperatures, equipment is at-risk to overheat.)
