The Conference Board exists by City Ordinance to govern the City Assessor's Office and consists of three voting units, with the Mayor serving as chairperson. The Conference Board serves as the governing board for the Ames City Assessor. The Conference Board has the responsibility of appointing members of the Examining Board, members of the Board of Review, and the Assessor. The Conference Board shall annually review, propose changes if necessary, and adopt the Assessor’s budget. The Conference Board approves the position of Deputy Assessor, the number of Deputy Assessors and reappointment of the Assessor. The Conference Board shall have power to employ appraisers and other technical help to assist in the valuation of property.
